Across Australia, Auror’s retail partners saw a year of significant momentum in reducing retail crime and violence, resulting in a number of high profile case resolutions.

As part of our 2025 Auror Wrapped campaign, we looked at some of the most compelling retail crime statistics from Australia.

Our Australian retail partners saw an 81% increase in dot connections and a 54% increase in suggested merges. This means more people of interest (POIs) were identified and connected, meaning more visibility over who was causing the most harm and loss, and when.

Importantly, 62% of stolen value came from just 10% of POIs. This is critical to retail crime prevention because it means a small handful of POIs are causing the vast majority of harm and loss. By focusing on this 10%, retailers are able to put a stop to more crime and create safer stores.

Australia retail case resolutions 2025

As we dive into 2026, we wanted to bring a new approach to New Year’s Resolutions: taking a moment to reflect on the retail resolutions of 2025 and setting a goal to resolve even more crime next year.

Driven by collaboration, use of innovative crime prevention technology, and quality event reporting, Australian retailers and police were responsible for some incredible case resolutions.

Here are just a handful of some of the most prolific cases from this year, as we gear up to help our community achieve more resolutions in 2026.

Retail case resolution #1

A criminal operation responsible for more than $10 million in stolen goods, ranging from baby formula to medicine and skincare, was dismantled thanks to excellent work by Victoria Police and impacted retailers.

Police arrested 19 people in total for this crime ring. By working together with retailers and using their detailed event reports and evidence on Auror, police were able to quickly identify the people involved and target them at the right time.

This outcome demonstrates how effective partnerships between police and retailers can dismantle coordinated retail crime, protect businesses and reassure the community of their safety.

Retail case resolution #2

An estimated $250K worth of stolen goods, including 1,700 unopened Lego sets, were recovered by South Australia police in one of the biggest retail theft hauls in the state’s history.

The detailed event reports and evidence on Auror empowered law enforcement to connect recovered property directly back to specific retail crime events, helping resolve cases that were both reported and previously unconnected.

Police arrested one person, charging them with theft and unlawful possession, for the cache of around 2500 products stolen from department stores across Adelaide. These items were being sold through online marketplaces.

This case shows the power of strong retailer-police collaboration, the importance of consistent and high quality evidence recording and evidence gathering, and the role of connecting the dots.

Retail case resolution #3

An offender was connected to $120.5K in total event value across 90+ events. Intel on this person also led investigators to arrest a receiver, who was selling items stolen by the repeat offender from a major Australian retailer.

$113K in stolen goods was returned to the retailer as a result of this person's arrest.

The retailer's Organized Retail Crime team started an investigation on Auror after noticing 90+ Auror reports made against the repeat offender. This person was observed meeting with the receiver and exchanging goods. Police later stopped the receiver, which was when the receiver tried to bribe the officers.

Police recovered $81K in cash, as well as a large number of stolen items from the receiver. The receiver's total prison sentence was five years and eight months on charges of drug trafficking, bribery, and handling criminal proceeds.

This case shows the importance of consistent event reporting, quality evidence, and strong partnership with police in ensuring the highest harm POIs and their extended network are stopped.

Retail case resolution #4

$296K in total value across 175 events ends in arrest of an aggressive retail offender.

A prolific offender was impacting several retailers across Victoria, Australia, and was connected to multiple counts of aggressive behavior and harassment, posing a significant risk to both staff and customer safety.

This person was identified through clear photos on Auror and arrested while attempting to steal again.

The arrest was a direct result of high-quality intelligence connecting this person's widespread offending. It is a powerful example of why an intelligence network is key to moving beyond single-store incidents and stopping the organized, repeat offenders who cause the most significant harm to profit and people.

Learn about another of our Australian community’s highlights this year in our The Reject Shop customer story, where they share their huge 1,790% increase in event reporting after rolling out Auror.

Carrying the momentum forward to more resolutions in the new year

These resolutions all have a common thread running through them: real results come from strong collaboration, consistent and high quality event reporting and evidence, innovation, and a strategic focus on connecting the dots to identify the highest harm POIs.

All of these elements are required for creating safer stores and provide a strong foundation to work with in our collective mission of reducing violent retail crime by 50% in five years. If retailers continue to focus on these elements on top of strengthening relationships with each other as well as law enforcement, 2026 is bound to be another year full of notable resolutions.
